An extensive natural gas pipeline system, accessible through nine major suppliers, serves all of South Texas. A county map illustrating these pipelines is available. The major gas transmission companies operating in South Texas are Delhi Gas Pipeline; Enron Corporation; Ensearch Gas Transmission; Exxon Gas Company; Gulf Energy Marketing Company; Tenngasco Marketing Corporation; Valero Industrial Gas, L.P.; and, Valgas, L.P.
The Reliant Energy Entex Company is the primary natural gas distributor in Alice and most of Jim Wells County. Reliant Energy Entex is the result of a merger between Noram Energy Company and Houston Industries.
Natural gas service is provided under the following conditions:
Size of transmission lines -6 inches
Transmission line pressure - 125 PSIG
Distribution line pressure - 25 to 50 PSIG
Average BTU rating per cubic foot - 1,050
There is no maximum distance to which service will be extended. Entex will provide line extensions up to 100 feet for no charge. Additional extensions are charged at $3.50 per foot.
WATER

The City of Alice provides water to users in proximity to the city. The City of Alice purchases surface water held in Lake Corpus Christi and Choke Canyon Lake through the Alice Water Authority from the City of Corpus Christi. Water is pumped into the Alice terminal reservoir.
There is excess water capacity even at peak usage times. Treatment plants have a capacity of 12 million gallons a day. The current demand is approximately 3 million gallons per day. The peak daily use is 4 million gallons per day. Over the past 10 years, all treatment plants have been revamped and are currently being rehab at a cost of 6.1 million.
Alice has both ground water storage systems and three 500,000-gallon capacity water towers. Water is pumped from the treatment plants to the storage facilities.
WASTE WATER TREATMENT / WASTE DISPOSAL

The combined capacity of the wastewater treatment plants is 4.6 million gallons. The South Side Waste Water Treatment Plant has a capacity of 2.6 million gallons per day. Peak daily use of the SSWTP is 1.4 million gallons per day. The Northeast Waste Water Treatment Plant has a capacity of 1.0 million gallons per day. Additionally, approximately 33 percent of the return flow water is sent to one of two wastewater treatment plants that have a combined daily output of approximately 900,000 gallons.
The City of Alice operates a 100-acre, Type 4 landfill. Hazardous waste disposal is available through private companies located nearby.
Local telephone service is provided by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. In addition to local dial service, SWBT provides direct distance dialing, data processing circuits, and Wide Area Telephone Service (WATS). Long distance service is provided by a number of companies. Facilities-based providers include AT&T, Sprint, and MCI. All major telecommunications companies offer microwave capabilities.
